In the past, well terms
like nerd, geek, and brain were derogatory at best. However, being a techie today can be bantered
with pride, in fact, being a techie has never been more affable. So it goes…
Traditionally, Halloween has
always been an opportunity to reveal our alter ego. However, many have difficulty piecing that
together. Wasabi Roll feels your pain,
so we would like to suggest these Halloween costume ideas for the technically
inclined. Ideas that won't bust your bank, but still represent the unique individual you are. So with that, Wasabi Roll introduces our Halloween 5 for 2012!
Ghost of Blackberry
Now this is really an IT joke
that can be appreciated by the mainstream. RIM may not have not flatlined just
yet, but culturally, Blackberries have become the walking dead. There are
multiple ways you can pull this one off. For the crafty: fashion a cardboard
BlackBerry replica outfit, but instead of black, switch the colors to whites
and grays, with the screen set to an ominous, frozen “loading” shot. For the
lazier (or last minute) costumer, grab a white sheet for your typical ghostly garb
and add a headband with the BlackBerry logo for your forehead (you can even cut
out the logo from an old box, if you happen to still have one around)

Ghost of Steve Jobs
This one is too easy, as long as
it’s not “too soon” for your group of friends. For example, if you work for
Apple, probably not the first costume you would pic for the company party. However, if you work for Google, now that’s
different. Simply, fashion yourself a
spectral Steve by swapping his trademark black turtleneck and blue jeans for a
white turtleneck and washed-out, grey jeans. Add chains and at the end of each
chain put a hand held grease board and write iPod, iPad, iTunes, etc. As in Ebenezer's old partner, Jacob Marley, fashion vis-à-vis A Christmas
Carol style.
The Reddit Alien

One of the more notable internet
destinations it the reddit.com site.
Once a best kept secret, reddit has launched into the greater social
consciousness this year with its ability to mobilize its participants into an
instant trend. Its trademark little white alien logo is sure to get you equal
attention. The body part is simple: a white, long sleeve tee, white sweat pants
and white mittens will do the trick. As for the head, we have found an easy to
wear, inexpensive ($29) solution (see link below_. Bonus: you can wear the toque all
winter long for added geek points among your pals.

iPhone 5
The iPhone is such a mainstream
costume, that today you can go to the local costume shop and probably find a
ready to wear costume. All you need is two
rectangular pieces of cardboard, string to attach each side over your shoulders
and paint to include all your favorite apps! Don't forget to include an extra
row of icons to perfect your iPhone 5 costume. Better yet, if you already have
an iPhone costume from a previous Halloween, simply wear it again. When people
ask what’s different about you, come up with a new quality for each answer.
“I’m thinner,” seems to be a popular response for the real iPhone 5.
Ghost of Google+
Google's neophyte social
network isn't for everyone, for sure: A recent report found that since it
started last summer, Google+ has been dominated by men, students and those who
live in the U.S. or India. Posting warm and fuzzy family photos -- one of the
big uses of Facebook -- showing kids, school talent video and smiling baby
faces isn't quite as common yet on Google+, with many of its users being single.
In fact, Google+ is a
"virtual ghost town compared with" Facebook, says the Wall Street
Journal, citing new data from comScore that finds visitors on Google+ spent an
average of 3 minutes a month on the site between September and January, compared
to 6 to 7 hours on month on Facebook during the same period.
This costume is just a sheet with the Google + logo on the front... techies will get it...
