President-Elect TRUMP – How did this happen? vol 5 rel 15

It’s funny, now that the election is over and a business man with no prior experience in politics was elected President of the United States.

All over the media, they are bantering the question of How did this happen?  This question defies them, because they know that every resource humanly possible was afforded to his opponent.

So, How did they get this wrong?

Usually, Wasabi Roll tries to keep out of the political arena, but this was too extraordinary to pass up, so if we may, we have one theory...

First, the blame game...

Was it the third party candidate, Gary Johnson? Being that Gary Earl Johnson, an American businessman, that served as the 29th Governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003 as a member of the Republican Party, he if anything was a spoiler for Trump, not Hillary.

Just look at middle states Hillary took. In Nevada, where Trump lost by by 2.4%, Gary took 3.3% .  With the absence of Gary, this would have give Trump this state.  with Colorado, Hillary won by 2.9% - with Gary taking 5.0% of the vote. Just doing the math shows Trump would have taken that state as well without Johnson on the ballot.

Still need more convincing?  Minnesota, Hillary won by 1.5%  Gary carried 3.9%, again, doesn't take a genius to figure out the math.  New Mexico, is more pronounced.  Hillary wins by a wopping  8.3%, yet surprise, surprise, Gary Johnson happens to show where that margin went with his 9.3% of the vote.  Hence, if anything, the introduction of the third party candidate actually helped Hillary mitigated the huge lead Trump had in the electoral college.

Those pesky FBI letters

Second,  Those pesky FBI letters.  Well, one could argue that the untimely FBI letters could have been better timed, but since they did in effect exonerate Hillary from any wrong doing - didn't seem to effect those going to the polls.  Hillary said it herself, that people made up their minds long before these letters came out.

So Finally, what was it that actually reached out to the voters that chose the businessman over the seasoned politician?  Simply put, the opposition didn't see this coming.  They viewed this election like any other - money, media, and mobility would equate to votes and champion the day.  However, that wasn't the case.  They were not only caught off guard, but were truly shocked at the result.  Why? Different Perspectives...

The election wasn’t about words, actions, or inaction for that matter. Voters weren't swayed by the recent developments exposing a lifetime of character flaws, words, or nefarious activities by the respective candidate’s.  In fact, they were actually tired of hearing about the misdeeds - they wanted to hear how change in policies will improve their lives.

Perspective Gap

No, this election wasn't about words or actions of late, but about a cavernous disparity of perspectives…

Not the differing perspectives that come from the everyday cultural differences among America's citizens, but the differences of perspectives between the politicians/media to those that they are chartered to represent.  This is why the campaign was ill prepared to convey a meaningful message.  Why did they fail to reach the hearts and minds of the American public?

As with any celebrated roles, rapid affluence ensues.  As such, all boats in the bay rise, but unfortunately, as with boats that aren't tethered to the shore they came from, they have a tendency to drift.

In this case, they drifted away from the very people they were to serve.

The celebrated politicians and media spent so much time in the limelight, they forgot the very tenets of what they were to abide by to perform their services.  Services to a population that they, not only no longer identified with, but actually had obvious contempt for.  This was evidenced by the campaign approved use of “basket of deplorable”.  Hence, priorities, drifted from protect and serve, to project and swerve.  Even in unabashed blatant culpability in clear site of the public, hubris took over and self preservation of power kicked in.  Subsequently, many abandoned the very things they swore to uphold when they took office.  With that, voters stopped believing in the established politicians.

As for the media, we are afraid that their boats weren't tethered either.  Long lost are the days of Walter Cronkite, Woodward and Bernstein where the tenets of journalistic integrity meant something.

Many media professionals thought that their personal perspectives of Trump justified tossing our their journalistic integrity and collaborating with his opponent to assist in his defeat.  This was evidenced by a Wikileaks email detailing a journalist referring to himself as a "Hack" when he offered up his article before it was published to be edited by the opposition's campaign managers.

Unfortunately, this type of "yellow journalism" has been so prevalent that the media has switched rolls with the tabloids – we find ourselves seeing Pulitzer Prize journalistic quality coming from the National Enquirer while the New York Times oversampling polls to push their agenda.

This all under the auspices that the public is too ignorant to notice or care.  Back in the day, there was an old sign that used to hang on the walls of the New York Times newsroom, it said, “remember, they are only in 9th grade” suggesting that their prose should be of that caliber to be understood by the readers.  Well, in their defense, 40 years ago that may have been true, but with the advent of the internet and college degrees being today’s “high-school diploma” this day has long passed.

Again, the voters, as with the politicians, didn't believe in what the media was
conveying. The result was an ill prepared Democratic team spouting a message to the general public that was falling on deaf ears.  Both the politicians and the media made the mistake of "telling" the public what was important to them, rather than truly listening to them and actually hearing what was important to them.

So it’s little wonder that the Democratic politicians and it's adoring media are both shocked at this loss.  So what really happened?  No one can say definitively, because everyone has their own perspective...
